Overview
The Domain Name System (DNS) is a critical component of the internet, providing a naming system for computers, services, and other resources on the internet or other Internet Protocol (IP) networks. It associates various information with domain names, translating readily memorized domain names to the numerical IP addresses needed for locating and identifying computer services and devices. The DNS system is hierarchical, with top-level domains (TLDs) such as .com and .org at the top, and subdomains below them. The majority of domain name registrations come from the .com and .org top-level domains. DNSSEC and DDoS protection are security features offered by some DNS services.
